Weight Control and Protein Diet

Trad Hospital offers two solutions for the overweight. For those who are mildly overweight, the Diet Center offers the "Protein Sparing Modified Fast" called the Protein Diet.

For those dealing with extreme weight problems or morbid obesity, Trad Hospital provides a minimally invasive surgical solution involving an adjustable gastric banding system called the Lap -Band.

Protein Diet

The Protein Diet is a multiphase diet that provides an alternative to the strict, dangerous diets that deplete the body and result in rapid weight gain once dieting is over.

The diet recommends the elimination of sugar and fat, which puts the pancreas to rest and stops fat from being stocked. As a result, the body derives energy from its reserves. During this transformation, fat creates ketonic substances that act as hunger stoppers, a process called ketogenesis by Dr. Blackburn, Nutrition Professor in Harvard University.

Weight loss should only occur at the expense of the fat mass, while safeguarding muscles and skin. Under the strict medical surveillance from a physician well trained in clinical nutrition, the patient undergoes a rigorous protein fast consisting of vegetables, a variety of protein sachets and nutritional supplements.

After that, the patient can eat white meat such as fish or poultry, as well as white cheese. On average, there is weight loss of around six to eight kilos per month for women, and between eight to ten kilos per month for men.

The program is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Sami Kawas, who has specialized in Family Medicine both at the American University of Beirut and in Stockholm, Sweden.

Dr. Kawas works as a family doctor and also has a particular interest in weight management. He has undergone training in clinical nutrition and in the Protein Diet in France.

Many believe that
being overweight is a
'glandular' disturbance,
but this is very rare.

The truth is much simpler.

You put on weight
when energy intake
exceeds energy
output - when you
eat and drink more
than your body can
use in your everyday
activities.
